‘New’ Old camera.

Today I am trying out a new camera I have. But it’s an old camera….A new old camera. Its a Zenit 12xp. I had never heard of Zenit before I was given this one. So I’ve loaded in a black and white film I had knocking about and now let the  point and shoot experiment begin! I’m not sure I have even loaded the film correctly. But I love the good old mechanical sound of the film crank, its like eating chocolate for the ears. Fingers crossed for a decent set of photos, properly exposed…

  1. I got one of these at a Russian market in Wroclaw, Poland, in the early 1990s and it was amazingly good! A bit heavy, but the results were seldom disappointing and even second-hand Japanese lenses were cheap!

  2. Unfortunately it turned out that mine doesn’t work :S I shot a load of film and then found out the camera’s broken. I don’t know what exactly is wrong with it, and I’m not really sure where to get it fixed either!

  3. There’s a camera shop here in Heidelberg that specialises in non-digital cameras, I could make enquiries. Any inde what’s wrong with it?

    • I’m not quite sure whats wrong with it, I need to take another look at, I banished it to a cupboard after I was so disappointed with it not working. I think I need to find a shop in the UK – If you know of any?

  4. Not really, I’m afraid. I always used to go to Jessops for anything camera-related in the UK, but that was all more than 10 years ago.
